No tickets available through the bike hostel website.
————————————————————————————-
Friday, August 7th @ 7 pm: Live storytelling from the Raven Narratives returns with a STORY SLAM! We offer, you, our beloved audience, the theme of ODD JOBS!
THESE ARE ALL AUDIENCE TOLD STORIES OFF-THE-CUFF so bring yours!
What makes a job odd, really? Is it the work itself? The people you worked with? The unforgettable customers? The ridiculous uniform? Or maybe it was the day everything went completely sideways.
Join Raven Narratives for a story slam exploring the strange, hilarious, surprising, and meaningful jobs that have shaped our lives. Through true stories, we’ll celebrate the work we never expected to do—and the moments that made those jobs unforgettable.
Stories around Odd Jobs might include (but are definitely not limited to):
Weird, unusual, or one-of-a-kind jobs
First jobs, summer jobs, or side hustles
The best (or absolute worst) bosses and coworkers
Customers, clients, or situations that you’ll never forget
Jobs that were harder, messier, or stranger than anyone could imagine
The unexpected lessons, friendships, or life-changing moments that came from an unlikely job
Out-of-the-box interpretations—because sometimes the oddest part wasn’t the job… it was what happened while you were doing it.
There are lots of ways to participate—no single “right” way to tell your story. We offer you 3 OPTIONS for telling your story:
Tell a story live on stage
Share a true, personal story told off-the-cuff in classic Raven Narratives style. If it’s honest and rooted in lived experience, it’s perfect.
Submit a written story (stage-optional!)
Prefer to let your words do the talking? Submit a one-page, typed story (12-point font) inspired by Odd Jobs a day prior to the event date. Selected stories may be read aloud from the stage by a host or volunteer reader.
Send submissions to ravennarratives@gmail.com
Write a haiku the night of the event
Feeling inspired in the moment? Audience members are invited to submit Odd Jobs-themed haikus during the event. A few will be selected and shared aloud—tiny stories with big impact.
Whether you take the mic, send your story ahead of time, or offer a handful of well-chosen syllables, Raven Narratives is a warm, welcoming space!
Come brave. Come curious. Come with your off-the-cuff ODD JOBS story to tell. Or just come to listen and enjoy!
Storytelling Guidelines:
Stories must be told in the first person
Stories must be true, as told from that person’s perspective
No soapboxing or political statements
No rants raves or explicit endorsements
Stories must be told in up to 6 minutes
Stories should relate meaningfully to the theme of ODD JOBS
Enjoy an evening of poignant and powerful storytelling!
Doors open at 6:30pm, storytelling starts at 7:00pm.
